H Cheryl Matthews, ACA’s Vice President of Events and Professional Development, discusses new features of this year’s show and the importance of timing and location.

ACS 2014 – what are your expectations?

Cheryl Matthews: I expect the attendees and exhibitors of the 2014 American Coatings SHOW and CONFERENCE to have an unprecedented experience, as the show continues to grow and make modifications.

One of the biggest changes for 2014 is that exhibitors now have the ability to apply for their booth space utilizing a new, interactive floor plan. They are able to choose their booth location and modify their profiles online. This change alone has proven to be extremely successful and, so far, has resulted in selling 88 percent of the show floor eight months in advance.

Additionally, there are several new sponsorship opportunities available, including the Industry Buyers Lounge, shuttle buses, and an enhanced interactive mobile application. There will also be considerable enhancements to the New Product Showcase displays.

Why did you decide to relocate the
show and conference from Indianapolis
to Atlanta?

Cheryl Matthews: Relocating the 2014 ACS to Atlanta was a difficult but necessary decision. The main reason was simply that Indianapolis was not available during the time frame that the industry has come to know and expect the ACS to be held. Atlanta is a first-tier city that offers everything that we need to have a successful show in 2014, but the show will return to Indiana in 2016 and 2018.

What are the hot topics that will be cov-
ered during the show and conference?

Cheryl Matthews: The focus of the 2014 American Coatings CONFERENCE is “ Designing the Future: Innovative Solutions for Coatings.” In keeping with the theme, the conference will feature the latest scientific research and advancements which are important to paint and coat- “An Unprecedented Experience”
