Glenium and Ucrete.
“This global brand is the next chapter in the more than a century-old history
of progressive development of solutions
for the construction industry. The Master
Builders Solutions brand represents a
connected approach enabling us to better meet individual construction challenges of our customers and partners,”

Builders Solutions brand features a new,
global naming system. The globally unified terminology presents the product
portfolio in a clear and easy-to-under-stand way, helping BASF to support customers and partners worldwide with high
quality products and services.
“The overall consistency of the

BASF Supplies Paints for
Innovative Electric Car
BASF and BMW have once again teamed
up, this time for the i3, the BMW Group’s
first model driven entirely by electric
power. BASF is supplying basecoats in
four colors for the new i3 production line
at the BMW plant in Leipzig. The i3 was
launched in November 2013.
With the paints, BASF is contributing to the i3’s unique design, which is
exceptionally clean, reduced but, at the
same time, dynamic. The i3 has another
special feature that also extends to the
coating: The passenger compartment is
made of carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic
(CFRP). “We are very pleased to be a
partner of the BMW Group also for
this innovative model. Driving sustainable solutions is one of BASF’s strategic principles,” said Dr. Alexander
Haunschild, head of Automotive OEM
Coatings Europe at BASF.
The car consists of a CFRP body-in-
white on which the coated plastic add-on
parts are mounted. This concept means
new challenges for the coating of the
add-on parts and for the associated ap-
plication processes. BASF’s many years
of experience in coating add-on parts has
paid off. Frank Naber, BASF’s Account
Manager for BMW Europe, explained:
“Our laboratory teams joined forces with
the BMW Group to develop a coating
for the special construction of the i3. In
Leipzig, we also provide technical field
service on site on a daily basis.”
BASF has been a supplier for the BMW
plant in Leipzig since its start-up in 2005
and provides the automotive manufactur-
er with modern paint systems worldwide.
PPG Commercial Coatings
Expands Offering of ECK
Products
PPG Industries has formed an agreement
between the commercial coatings group
of its automotive refinish business and
Van Nay, LLC, to expand the line of
ECK corrosion-prevention products that
PPG distributes. PPG now offers the full
line of ECK products, adding quart and
aerosol versions to the squeeze tubes it
already offered.
`“We are pleased to add the quart and
aerosol products to our already success-
ful ECK squeeze tubes,” said J. J. Wirth,
PPG commercial brand manager, fleet seg-
ments, U.S. and Canada. “ECK is a very
effective safeguard against corrosion. By
providing a full line of ECK products to
PPG customers, I believe we will enhance
their success with additional options to
prevent corrosion.”
According to PPG, ECK (Electrolysis
Corrosion Kontrol) products, developed
by Van Nay, use a patented compound
that provides a cost-effective way to avoid
expensive repairs caused by dissimilar
metal corrosion. Aluminum products as-
sembled with stainless-steel fasteners are
naturally corrosive. Applying the zinc-rich
ECK coating prevents the electrolytic reac-
tion. By forming a long-lasting, moisture-
resistant barrier between dissimilar metals,
ECK coating outperforms traditional
methods of corrosion prevention such as
the use of silicone-based products and
plastic insulating tape applications. ECK
products can also be used to prevent bolts
and fasteners from galling and seizing.
ECK products are ideal for heavy-duty
truck bodies, military vehicles, trailers, ag-
ricultural and construction equipment and
a variety of other metallic applications.
