transformer industry.

The new Voltatex 8500 brand is a
nano-modified PAI wire enamel for use
as a top coat or for single coated wires
designed to provide excellent corona resistance properties. Voltatex 8500 joins
Axalta’s Voltron System and, when used
in conjunction with Voltatex 7700 and
Voltatex 4200, both already in the market, provides a full set of products for
inverter-fed motors. In addition, thanks
to the VOC-free one-component impregnating resins from Voltatex 4200, the
conventional impregnation process today
is lower in emissions and thus more environmentally friendly. These products
are designed to minimize the risk of fire
or explosion hazard, as well as no established occupational exposure limit (OEL).
Weiguo Lu, director of Industrial
Coatings for Axalta Greater China, said,
“Our R&D team has made great strides
to build on and adapt Axalta’s German
technology for the China market. As a re-
sult, the industrial products unveiled to-
day aim to ensure protection of workers,
the community and the economy, each of
which is significantly affected by electri-
cal component fires, which can cause
blackouts, force facilities to shut down
and create dangerous hazards. In addi-
tion, Axalta’s new industrial products
meet EU RoHS standards, thus comply-
ing with global environmental trends and
setting the pace for the industry’s move
to lighter, safer materials that do not
compromise on performance.”
Axalta also announced a new halogen-free, flame retardant impregnating
resin. This newly developed material
is specially designed for dry type transformer application and features excellent flame retardant technology (LOI>
30, by UL94 combustion level test). The
development of impregnating resins has
been a strength of Axalta’s research and
development.
Carbodeon Offers
NanoDiamonds PTFE
Coating
Surface coatings specialist Carbodeon
has released a new PTFE/NanoDiamond
coating with twice the durability and up
to 66 percent less friction than current
products. The new coating has the potential to cost-effectively reduce CO2 output
and fuel demand, as well as to improve
equipment lifespan, in fields such as the
automotive, aerospace and industrial machinery industries.
NanoDiamond particles are hard-wearing, small, and offer very low surface
friction. Carbodeon has developed a liquid dispersion of 4-6 nm NanoDiamond
particles with surface chemistry that has
been specially created to integrate the
particles with PTFE molecules without
the use of additional surfactants. The
new dispersion, called uDiamond Vox
D, is the latest addition to Carbodeon’s
range of NanoDiamond materials.
The improvements in durability and
friction come in part because of the properties of the diamond material that the
particles are composed of, but equally
important are the changes to the overall
coating structure caused by the presence
of the particles themselves. The use of
hard particles to improve the durability
of coatings is well known, but the combination of small size and surface func-tionalization in the uDiamond Vox D
coating means that Carbodeon’s particles
are interfaced with PTFE molecules in a
fundamentally different way.
Dymax Offers Optically
Clear Hard Coating
Dymax Corporation has released OC-
3021, a UV-curable, optically clear, hard
coating typically used in the manufac-
ture of electronic touch-panels, po-
larized sunglasses, safety glasses and
goggles, and LCD polarized displays.
The coating, engineered for superior
scratch, abrasion, and chemical resis-
tance, is ideal for use with film substrates
such as PET and PMMA. Its low surface
energy prevents materials from easily
adhering to the cured coating, resulting
in a non-stick or self-cleaning surface.
OC-3021 is especially suitable for appli-
cations where there is a desire to keep
the surface free from inks, adhesives, and
coatings. It offers excellent transparency
and low haze characteristics, maintain-
ing optical clarity over time for better
performance and aesthetics.
This 100 percent solids hard coating
is formulated to lower production, shipping, and life-cycle costs while reducing
ecological impact. It quickly cures tack
free when exposed to UV light, enabling
faster processing, fewer defects, and
greater output. It also ships with no solvents, resulting in reduced freight costs,
but can still be mixed with a variety of
solvents just before roll or dip coating to
obtain a desired coating thickness of 2
to 5 microns. OC-3021 is formulated to
cure with Dymax’s broad-spectrum UV
light-curing equipment.
Dow Corning Introduces
Advanced New Terminal
Sealant for LCD Display
Assembly
Dow Corning Corp., a global leader in
silicones, silicon-based technology and
innovation, recently introduced new Dow
Corning EA-2000 Silicone Adhesive, a
high-performance terminal sealant for
faster, more cost-effective manufacturing of thin-film transistor (TFT) LCD
displays, according to the company. This
innovative, low-viscosity, room-temper-ature vulcanizing (RTV) silicone sealant
combines high flowability and good adhesion with a fast, non-corrosive cure to
facilitate higher throughputs and thinner,
more reliable display architectures. Like
other silicone materials, Dow Corning
EA-2000 Silicone Adhesive provides
long-lasting durability compared with organic materials. CW
