U.S. Zinc has announced the ex- pansion of its relationship with Unipex Solutions Canada, an
Azelis Americas company (formerly
KODA Distribution Group). Effective
February 18, 2016, Azelis Americas will
represent U.S. Zinc for zinc oxide and
zinc dust across all of Canada.
“For more than 65 years, our main pri-
ority has always been providing our cus-
tomers with the highest quality products
and services,” explains U.S. Zinc President,
Tracy Baugh. “Azelis Americas is our distri-
bution partner of choice in Canada. Their
experience in the market as well as knowl-
edge of the local customer base is outstand-
ing. This expanded relationship will allow
us to better serve clients both large and
small as we continue to work closely with
Azelis Americas into the future.”
The announcement comes less than
two years after U.S. Zinc named Azelis
Americas as their preferred distribu-
tor in the United States servicing the
CASE (Coatings, Adhesives, Sealants and
Elastomers) market.
“We are excited about this opportunity to represent U.S. Zinc in Canada,”
adds Frank Bergonzi, CEO and President
of Azelis Americas. “Our partnership with
U.S. Zinc has been a true success story in
the USA. We are very proud of our efforts
and excited to do the same in Canada. U.S.
Zinc’s high quality products, coupled with
our technical sales force, forms the perfect
partnership.” Mr. Bergonzi concludes, “we
are confident that combining the strength
of 70 years of local experience in Canada
in the rubber, plastic and the corrosion
coatings markets, with the premier global
leader in value added zinc products will create lasting value for our clients, and allow
us to continue to grow together.”
Perstorp Signs
Memorandum of
Understanding at Make in
India
Perstorp has been participating in
the event “Make in India”. By sign-
ing an MoU with MIDC (Maharashtra
Industrial Development Corporation),
the company initiates the process of eval-
uating the opportunity to invest in a new
world scale production plant for Penta
in India. The related market for coatings
is growing fast in the country. Building a
world scale production plant would be
yet another important part of the ambi-
tious plan to strengthen the position in
the Asian Market. In July 2015, Perstorp
acquired the Penta business from Koei
Chemical Company Ltd., a Japanese
chemicals producer.
“The Penta business is a corner stone
for Perstorp and an integral part of the
strategy to drive growth in the Asia
Pacific region. It requires presence and
determination in order to succeed. An
investment in India would further build
upon and strengthen our number one
position in the global market. Today’s
signing of an MoU demonstrates our
intention to take the desired steps in the
region.” Perstorp’s President and CEO
Jan Secher says.
“Perstorp has for a longer period
successfully been building its position
in Asia. The “Make in India” initiative gives Perstorp an arena to further
evaluate opportunities within this exciting region. Ultimately our intention
is to develop existing and new customer relationships to further support
their success and growth”, says Ulrika
Andersson, Vice President Business
Unit Penta.
Pentaerythritol (Penta) is a white
crystalline polyhydric alcohol containing four primary hydroxyl groups.
Applications are building blocks in
alkyd resins for coatings, radiation
curing monomers, polyurethanes,
rosin esters, synthetic lubricants and
explosives. Perstorp is currently producing Penta in three different production plants in Germany, the US and
Sweden.
Evonik to Expand Capacity
for VESTOSINT Polyamide
12 Powder in Marl
Evonik Industries plans to build a new
production line for special polyamide 12
powder (PA12) in Marl, Germany with
an investment volume in the mid double-digit million euro range. The new plant,
which is scheduled to become operational
in late 2017, will increase the Group’s existing annual capacity for polyamide 12
powders by 50 percent.
“The planned investment in the new
polyamide 12 powder facility represents the next step in our growth strategy. Our intention is to solidify Evonik’s
leading position as a provider of polyamide 12-based high performance polymers and utilize the growth potential
of new application areas,” said Dr.
Ralph Sven Kaufmann, Chief Operating
Officer of Evonik.
The Resource Efficiency Segment of
Evonik is the market leader for polyamide 12 powders, which are sold under the
brand name VESTOSINT. The powders
are used, for example, to coat metals for
household appliances such as dishwasher
baskets, but also in automotive and medical technology production and as matting
and structural agents in coatings. Evonik
also anticipates significant increases in demand in tool-free production–especially
in the 3D printing industry. “We project
attractive market growth. The new production line in Marl will meet the growing demand for PA12 powder products
in the long term to support our customers’ growth,” said Dr. Claus Rettig, the
Chairman of the Board of Management
of Evonik Resource Efficiency GmbH.
Due to their mechanical properties
and chemical resistance as well as the high
melting point of finished products, PA12
powders are particularly suitable for use
in powder-based 3D printing processes
such as selective laser sintering (SLS)
and high-speed sintering (HSS). Fiber
composite materials represent another
