The HOBA Purair internal
powder liner is the latest addition to PPG’s complete range of new-generation monobloc aerosol and tube
coatings designed to meet regulatory
requirements while offering high performance and a wide range of filling compatibility. The line also includes HOBA
MAX (PPG8900 series), HOBA VCL and
HOBA VGL (PPG2845 series) coatings.
Sherwin-Williams Enhances
its Superdeck Finishing
System
Sherwin-Williams has made enhancements to several products in the
SuperDeck Finishing System, the most
comprehensive deck care finishing system
available, to offer even greater durability
and performance, the company stated.
The full SuperDeck line, featuring
premium Duckback technology, includes
products for staining, sealing, stripping,
cleaning and restoring decks. The innovative line also includes revolutionary
infrared (IR) reflective technology stains,
designed to help keep surfaces cool even
when temperatures are hot.
“Since its initial launch last year,
SuperDeck has offered our customers
long-lasting results, durability and ad-
hesion for any deck-related project,”
said Karl Schmitt, senior vice president
of market research, color and design,
Sherwin-Williams. “These enhancements
will make it even easier to get great re-
sults for the upcoming outdoor season.”
The new product enhancements in
the SuperDeck line, available this spring,
include:
•Enhanced SuperDeck Waterborne
Semi-Transparent Stain
The stain penetrates deeply to offer
excellent ultraviolet (UV) protection and
lasting defense against mildew and pre-
mature weathering. The enhanced, tech-
nologically advanced formula will deliver
this premium performance for up to three
years while also offering improved
weathering, similar to an oil-based stain
that wears away, rather than peeling and
blistering at the end of its life cycle.
Providing durable, opaque protection
for exterior horizontal wood surfaces,
this stain has also been enhanced for im-
proved durability, offering even longer
lasting protection against cracking, peel-
ing and weathering.
In addition, both the SuperDeck Semi-Transparent and Solid Color stains can
be applied to damp wood allowing most
projects to be finished in a single day for
quick completion of the job.
An enhanced version of the SuperDeck
Deck & Dock Elastomeric Coating will
also be available later in the spring. Ideal
for smoothing and filling rough or damaged surfaces, this coating will adhere
to weathered wood and concrete. The
enhanced version can fill up to 1/8-inch
wide cracks.
The SuperDeck care system offers a
clear sealer and semi-transparent, semisolid and solid color stains — all in a
waterborne formula, plus oil-based transparent and semi-transparent formulations. Also available are Log Home Oil &
Waterborne Finishes, Exotic Hardwood
Stain and Pressure Treated Wood Stain.
SuperDeck can be applied on a variety
of deck substrates including new, uncoated, pressure-treated, weathered lumber,
cedar and redwood. It’s also available in
a wide range of colors that complement
Sherwin Williams’ popular WoodScapes
stains for vertical wood surfaces — allowing for a fully coordinated look.

SPECTRACRON 380
POLY-IOTHANE HS Series
Coatings for Metal
PPG Industries’ industrial coatings business has introduced SPECTRACRON
380 POLY-IOTHANE HS (High-Solids)
Series coatings, two-component polyester
polyurethane enamel coatings that provide excellent corrosion resistance when
applied directly to metal or over primer-coated metal surfaces.
Designed for enhanced surface protection and durability in industrial and
architectural environments, Spectracron
380 Poly-iothane HS coatings can be
used for hydraulic pumps, trucks and
trailer frames, water and gas meters, agri-
cultural and construction equipment, and
metal framing assemblies for commercial
rooftop heating, ventilation and air-con-
ditioning (HVAC) units.
Scott Laney, PPG product manager,
liquid coatings, said versatility is a major
benefit of Spectracron 380 Poly-iothane
HS coatings. “These products can be ap-
plied over cleaned and blasted steel or
top-coated over surfaces that have not
been sanded or abraded. They also can
be used as clear coats to protect steel
from oxidation prior to fabrication,
which can preclude the need for phos-
phates and other chemical cleaners as
metal goes through milling, stamping
and coating.”
Spectracron 380 Poly-iothane HS
coatings are available in a broad range of
glosses and standard and custom colors,
including metallic and clear-coat finishes,
and they withstand exposure to chemi-
cals, abrasion and impact. The coatings
can be applied using most conventional
spray equipment, including air, airless,
air-assisted and electrostatic tools.
Valspar Launches Lifeshield
Industrial Flooring Coatings
Valspar Wood coatings, one of the lead-
ing manufacturers of coatings for prefin-
ished flooring, siding, molding, kitchen
cabinets, furniture, and other building
products, has introduced a new family of
coatings – Lifeshield – for North America
industrial flooring manufacturers.
Lifeshield provides best-in-class du-
rability, scuff and scratch resistance, and
moisture protection, while providing out-
standing clarity and appearance. As with
all Valspar industrial flooring coatings,
the system is designed with industrial op-
erations in mind to ensure maximum ef-
ficiency and usability for manufacturers.
