Katja Scharpwinkel took over the position as head of the Automotive Refinish Coatings
Solutions Europe business unit at
BASF’s Coatings division in Münster.
She succeeds Harald Pflanzl, who was
appointed head of the BASF Group’s
Central Europe unit in Vienna effective the same date. Scharpwinkel has
held various positions throughout her
career, primarily in marketing and sales
at Ciba and Cognis. After BASF’s acquisition of Cognis, she was first appointed head of sales in the Formulation
Technologies unit. Starting in February
2012, she managed the business of
BASF’s European distributor of specialty chemicals, BTC Europe.
U.S. Zinc Creates New
Position
U..S. Zinc has announced it has created a
new position focused on overseeing key
distribution relationships. Paul Myers, a
37-year rubber and chemicals industry
veteran, has accepted the role of distribution manager, effective immediately.
Myers will manage U.S. Zinc’s distribution alliances with HB Chemical and
Azelis (formally KODA), as well as U.S.
Zinc’s specialty distributors. The shift
will allow U.S. Zinc to serve the rubber and CASE (coatings, adhesives, sealants and elastomers) markets nationally
through one streamlined process.
Myers previously served as the U.S
Zinc sales lead for the mid-west United
States. Since joining the company in
February 2013, he has been responsible for zinc oxide sales to the rubber,
plastics, coatings, adhesive and agriculture industries.
HORN Hires Yvette Altuna
as Senior Credit Manager
HORN has introduced Yvette Altuna
as senior credit manager to oversee the
company’s credit department. Altuna
joins HORN with 18 years of experience
managing credit departments in the
chemical distribution industry.
Altuna is a 17-year member of Credit
Management Association and previously
served as vice president at a local chapter
in Southern California. She was hired as
the successor to Guy Nishida, who retired as HORN’s senior credit manager in
December 2015.
Sartomer Strengthens R&D

named Dr. Jeffrey Klang
director of research and
development. In his new role, Klang
will lead R&D programs to support
development and growth of high-value
applications and technologies within
Sartomer’s key end-use markets, includ-
ing coatings, graphic arts, adhesives,
sealants, elastomers, electronics and
3D printing. He will also ensure that
Sartomer’s R&D efforts continue to
align with current customer, market and
regulatory needs.
Klang’s extensive experience in R&D
and product management includes three
previous roles with Sartomer, includ-
ing manager of coatings platform R&D,
manager of product and process devel-
opment, and group leader of monomer
development. Prior to Sartomer he held a
variety of R&D roles at ARCO Chemical.
Nordson Promotes Ken
Forden to General Manager
for Extrusion and Coating
Dies
Nordson Corporation has promoted Ken
Forden to be general manager of the extrusion and coating die business within
the company’s polymer processing product line.
Forden will have worldwide responsibility for
the EDI, Verbruggen, and
Premier product brands.
Andrei Stapinoiu, previously the global director
of this business, has been
promoted to the position of managing director, Europe/Middle East/Africa, for the
Nordson EFD division.
Altex Coatings Ltd.
Announces New Executive
Appointment
Altex Coatings has announced the appointment of Wynand Kruger to its
newly created Technical Manager position. According to Managing Director
Mike O’Sullivan, the appointment will
further streamline and improve the
high-end technical services upon which
Altex Coatings has built its class-lead-ing reputation.
Wynand will lead the Altex technical team, while also bringing focus
and coordination to Altex Coatings’
technical services and R&D functions.
Through this new position, the company aims to achieve enhanced levels
of technical support to meet growing
customer demand.
Drawing from its over 60 years of experience, Altex Coatings has several new
ventures in the pipeline to compliment
their traditional industrial and marine
coatings business. Wynand and his technical team will drive these programs, providing key sales team support across all
business segments.
Wynand has 25 years of overseas experience in environmental engineering,
project management and process engineering within the petrol chemical industry, and holds a chemical engineering
degree and a B.Com in Marketing and
Economics. He brings a wealth of personal experience and knowledge to this
new position and to the New Zealand
