BCF Coatings Training
Institute launches in Asia
The British Coatings Federation has
started targeting the Asian market with
its unique distance learning proposition
for technicians and R&D staff in the
global coatings community.
The launch was marked by a workshop
held at Chinacoat 2015 in Shanghai at the
end of November, where BCF Technical
Consultant Peter Collins gave a three hour
workshop on the Evaluation of Colour,
one of the intermediate modules from
the suite of 63 bite sized courses available
from the Coatings Training Institute (CTI).
“The Asian market is a huge poten-
tial for coatings education – with many
new entrants to the industry hungry for
knowledge in these exciting growth mar-
kets. The UK has a great image for deliv-
ering quality training and education, and
young chemists have a desire to grow both
their coatings knowledge, but also their
technical English skills so the CTI is a great
fit” commented Tom Bowtell, chief execu-
tive of the British Coatings Federation.
The BCF plans to work with the local trade associations in the coatings
arena to help spread the word about the
Coatings Training Institute, and continue
to promote the Institute via the Vincentz
Network, who will be showcasing the
CTI at PaintIndia in January, as well as at
their shows in the USA and Europe.

Hempel Completes
Construction of its Coatings
Factory in Russia
Hempel has completed construction of its
first factory in Russia. This event marks
an important step towards fulfilling a vi-
sion of providing increased local support
and service to customers in Russia and
the wider Eurasian region.
This new factory is Hempel’s 28th
globally, and in Russia, it is the company’s
first site for locally produced coatings.
Using the latest state of the art
technology in productivity, including
automatic dosing systems, high-speed
filling lines, and robotic palletizing, the
Ulyanovsk factory will produce anticor-
rosive coatings for the major markets in
which Hempel operates, namely marine
repair and shipbuilding, infrastructure,
oil and gas, mining and power segments.
When asked about the choice of the
Ulyanovsk site for the Hempel factory,
Jesper Bodtkjer, vice president Europe,
Hempel A/S, stated:
“We are pleased to have chosen
Ulyanovsk for the factory location be-
cause of the well-organized local facilities
and infrastructure, and the central geo-
graphic location optimizing our delivery
service to customers in Russia and rest
of the Eurasian Economic Union. We are
most grateful to the Ulyanovsk Regional
Authorities who have been very support-
ive throughout the entire process of es-
tablishing our facility.”
Hempel contributes to local develop-
ment in Russia by creating new employ-
ment and career opportunities. More than
50 people have been hired to work at the
factory in Ulyanovsk, and this number is
projected to rise to approximately 100 as
production output grows.
“Hempel places great importance on
being close to the market and possessing
a high degree of customer orientation.
Meeting end-user needs and supplying an outstanding local service are the
hallmarks of our company. By hiring
talented local employees and providing
them with training that meets Hempel’s
global standards, it can create a combination that achieves a real competitive edge
in the market and a benefit for the local
community,” said Peter de Groot, general
Director, ZAO Hempel.
The factory has been equipped with
modern and safe equipment for both the
employees and the environment, meeting
Use grind gages more consistently.
Little Joe Industries offers the ADM Automatic Draw-Down Machine for use with
grind gages. The ADM automates the draw down process controlling scraper
angle, speed, and force. Since these aspects are no longer operator dependent your grind gage draw-downs will be more consistent while requiring less
operator training and supervision.
Uses existing grind gages and scrapers from your current supplier.
US and foreign patents apply.
