New offices for Purolator International:
Canadian logistics company Purolator
International is opening 10 new branch
offices in the United States, doubling its presence in the American market. The company
says this expansion is indicative of the surge in
demand for logistics experience and expertise
in transporting goods between the United
States and Canada.
With these new offices, Purolator will have a
presence in 18 of the top 20 markets. The new
offices either already opened or opening soon
are in Atlanta, Boston, Cincinnati, Cleveland,
Minneapolis, Salt Lake City, San Francisco,
Houston, Miami, and Milwaukee. Purolator’s
growth comes at a time when U.S. businesses
are increasingly looking to Canada as a source of
new customers and economic opportunity. In
total, more than $1 billion in goods cross the
U.S./Canadian border each day. (Purolator

Sealed Air Quick Shot Delivery Solution:
Sealed Air has launched a new packaging-material delivery solution that integrates into
an existing packaging line. The Sealed Air
Quick Shot Delivery Solution fully integrates
with Sealed Air’s Fill-Air 2000 and Fill-Air
Cyclone inflatable void-fill systems. The solution speeds delivery of
the void-fill bag by using
a unique “tug” feature
that provides more bags
with less motion and
input required from
operators. This improvement allows operators to pack more per day
with less effort, according to Sealed Air.
The Quick Shot Delivery Solution works by
getting Fill-Air cushions from a bin fed by a
Fill-Air 2000 or Fill-Air Cyclone system and
delivering them directly into boxes on the
packing line. Operators adjust the bag replen-ishment dial to begin. This establishes the
number of bags that the system will automatically replenish after the operator tears or tugs
on the bag chain. If the operator sets the system up to replenish four bags and he or she
tears four bags from the chain, the system will
automatically advance four more bags to be
ready for the next carton.
Because the new solution has a small footprint, it takes up little valuable floor space,
while providing a truly integrated packaging
line solution, says Sealed Air. The Quick Shot
Delivery Solution can run any of Sealed Air’s
film sizes, including a new film developed
specifically for this solution that reduces the
effort to separate the bags from the chain by
50 percent. (Sealed Air, www.sealedair.com)
Mobile Engage voice system reporting app: Lucas Systems Inc., which creates
voice-directed warehouse applications, has designed a second-generation of its
Mobile Engage application. This mobile application is designed to give managers
real-time process updates via a smart phone or industrial PDA. The new app allows
supervisors and managers to get out on the warehouse floor without losing touch
with what’s happening elsewhere in the operation.
The app, which is available as an add-on to Jennifer VoicePlus systems, extends
the Web-based capabilities of Jennifer’s Engage Management Service Console to a
mobile device using a standard browser. (Lucas Systems, www.lucasware.com)
