Redesigned PB1108 platform truck: Hamilton
Caster has redesigned its model PB1108 2,000-
pound class platform truck. Among other
enhancements, the company has added better
running gear to improve the truck’s ability to roll
easily. Using 8- x 2-inch premium mold-on rubber
tired wheels with ball bearings reduces the
required starting forces by as much as 20 percent
compared with other rubber-tired wheeled carts.
These premium wheels reduce operator fatigue
and the related risk of back injury or other muscle
strain.
While several aspects of the hand truck have
changed, its sturdy all-steel frame remains intact, as does the truck’s kiln-dried,
premium-quality hardwood deck, which muffles noise and protects the load from
damage. (Hamilton Caster and Manufacturing Co., www.HamiltonCaster.com)
LeanFleet routing software: LeanLogistics, a company that provides transportation management system (TMS) applications and supply chain services, has
launched LeanFleet. LeanFleet is a Web-based fleet routing and optimization application designed for managing asset-based dedicated and private fleets. This software-as-a-service (SaaS) technology provides companies with visibility into street-level routing as well as automatic consolidation functionality.
The solution optimizes the daily planning and execution of assets and addresses contract and fleet constraints. This allows companies to gain visibility into fleet
costs, improve the productivity of assets, automate consolidation, and reduce their
carbon footprint. (LeanLogistics, www.LeanLogistics.com)
RFID-enabled fleet fueling solution:
Comdata Corp., a provider of electronic payment products, has introduced a new cardless
fueling solution for transportation companies.
The program provides a faster, more efficient
way for drivers to fuel up, while giving transportation companies even more options to control the fuel-purchasing process.
The cardless program uses RFID technology
to initiate transactions at the fuel terminal,
instead of requiring the presence of a card to
facilitate the process. Companies install RFID
tags in each of their vehicles that activate fuel
terminals at approved RFID-equipped locations
as the vehicles pull alongside them.
By the time the driver steps out to the pump,
the purchase has been authorized according to
specific controls established for his or her vehicle. This streamlined process allows drivers to
spend less time at the pump since the RFID tag
eliminates most, if not all, of their data entry
tasks. As a result, the program simplifies the
overall fuel-purchasing process by automating
the transaction for drivers, expediting the
authorization, and reducing the chances of
fraudulent purchases being made on a card.
The cardless program utilizes the Fuel Island
Manager platform from QuikQ, a software
development company that specializes in technology for the transportation industry. As the
exclusive marketer of the program, Comdata
will install and support the Fuel Island Manager
platform for participating merchants. (Comdata
