Prorunner mk5 vertical sortation solution: The
Prorunner mk5 from Nedpack is a vertical sortation system
that requires a small amount of space compared with other
sorters. It occupies the space of a simple product elevator, with
investment costs similar to those of a product elevator. This
compact sorter allows for vertical sorting between different
floors in a warehouse or distribution center.
The Prorunner mk5 features an intelligent control system.
Even before the sorter picks up a container or a box, it automatically scans the product’s bar code or RFID tag. The control software next assigns the product to an empty product
carrier and chooses the appropriate infeed point. The same
software then ensures that the product is transported to
the correct level by manipulating the rollers or string belts of the corresponding outfeed carrier between the forks of the product carrier at the right moment.
The Prorunner mk5 can sort not only from one infeed destination to multiple
outfeed destinations but also from multiple infeed destinations to multiple outfeed destinations. The input and output direction can even vary by floor.
The Prorunner mk5 also has a modular structure. In order to increase capacity,
simply add more product carriers. According to Nedpack, the system can easily
achieve 2,000 movements per hour.
The Prorunner mk5 keeps all products in an upright position during the entire circulation, which reduces the possibility of product deformation, says the company.
The standard version of the system is suitable for containers and boxes of 23. 6 x
15. 7 inches (600 x 400 mm) with a maximum weight of 220 pounds (100 kilograms). For larger loads, Nedpack has developed an “XL version” that can manage
loads of up to 35. 4 x 35. 4 inches (900 x 900 mm). (Nedpack, www.nedpack.nl)

Spraydown Aero Guards: The Spraydown Aero
Guard system is a three-dimensional mud flap
that offers fuel savings, spray suppression, and
reduced emissions, according to the manufacturer. Standard two-dimensional mud flaps disrupt
air flow and contribute to turbulent air flow patterns around heavy-duty vehicles, says
Spraydown. The vertical aero vanes manufactured into Spraydown mud flaps, however, redirect spray down through the pockets, says the
company. This smoothes airflow and reduces
drag, resulting in substantial fuel savings, according to the company. Spraydown flaps also direct
98 percent of spray back to the road and out of
the driver’s view, improving visibility and safety.
Spraydown was originally introduced in
Europe more than four years ago and has since
undergone more than a million miles of vehicle
on-road and track testing. Research indicates
that fuel economy can be improved in the
range of 1. 5 to 3 percent by replacing standard
mud flaps with Spraydown Aero Guards.
Testing also showed 95-percent suppression of
spray from vehicles outfitted with Spraydown,
resulting in a 43-percent improvement in visibility, enhancing both driver and motorists’ safety.
Spraydown Aero Guards are easily installed
and are available in 24-, 27-, and 30-inch
lengths in both straight and angled-down configurations.
The mudflaps are now available in the United
States in cooperation with Betts Spring Inc., a
manufacturer of heavy-duty truck parts.

Expedite TC Passive cold packaging solution:
American Airlines Cargo division has expanded
its cold-chain service, ExpediteTC, to include a
new solution for cold packaging during transit.
The new solution, called ExpediteTC Passive,
supports ambient temperature control using
state-of-the-art cool rooms, expedited handling
processes, and high-visibility monitoring to
ensure cargo is handled within desired temperature ranges. This offering augments American’s
current service, ExpediteTC Active, which uses
dry ice and battery-powered containers to
actively regulate temperature levels, regardless
of ambient conditions. Expedite TC Passive provides customers with another option for moving
time- and temperature-sensitive cargo.
The service utilizes American’s high-visibility
monitoring system as well as distinct processes
for supporting temperature control during handling. Expedite TC is supported by a 100-percent
money-back guarantee that the shipment will be
flown on the routing for which it was booked.
