Protective eyewear: 3M Personal Safety Division has expanded its SecureFit Protective
Eyewear line by offering more features and deeper personalization with the debut of the new
3M SecureFit Protective Eyewear 600 series.
The SecureFit Protective Eyewear 600 series includes the Scotchgard anti-fog coating to help
increase performance in wet and steamy environments. The proprietary coating lasts longer
than traditional anti-fog coatings, retaining its effectiveness for at least 25 washings with
water and allowing workers to wear their eyewear longer (based on 3M internal testing per
EN168 test method when compared with traditional anti-fog coatings), the company says. A
rugged anti-scratch (RAS) coating helps extend the life of the lens and meets the requirements
of CSA Z94.3-2007 and ANSI Z87.1-2010. The SecureFit Protective Eyewear 600 series comes
in multiple lens color options (clear, gray, amber, and indoor/outdoor gray) and shades (Low
IR, Shade 3.0, and Shade 5.0). Users can also choose photochromic and polarized lenses.
Photochromic lenses darken when exposed to UV light outdoors and lighten when removed
from UV exposure indoors. Polarized lenses reduce reflective glare and are commonly used in
outdoor applications. Further, task-specific lens tints help reduce glare, eye stress, and fatigue
in a variety of applications. Optional readers with Scotchgard anti-fog coating come in a range
of diopters: + 1. 5, + 2.0, and + 2. 5.
The 3M Pressure Diffusion Temple (PDT) technology comes standard with every piece of
SecureFit eyewear. PDT is designed to allow for a secure, comfortable fit and can self-adjust to
a wide array of head sizes. The 600 series will continue offering key features, including durable
polycarbonate lenses that absorb 99.9 percent of UVA and UVB rays, an optional removable
foam-lined gasket to keep debris out of the eyes while providing comfort and cushioning, and
a lightweight design and stylish-yet-sturdy frame for a touch of individualism.
The clear lens, clear lens with a foam gasket, and gray lens products from the SecureFit
600 series are available now, with the entire series set to release in May. (3M, www.3m.com)
Drawbridge-style cart: Creform Corp. has introduced a drawbridge cart designed to be
towed by a Creform NSI AGV. The cart is built so that the AGV can tunnel underneath and
features an A-HPL hitch that accepts the tow pin of the AGV unit. The AGV works as an
automated tugger, traveling along a magnetic tape guidepath. It slips under a stationary cart,
extends a tow pin into the cart’s frame, and then conveys it to a designated area. The cart is
picked up and dropped off automatically, and once it is released, the associate in the area can
easily move the cart into its optimal position for use.
The Creform NSI AGV offers a programmable control system that can control 50 courses
with up to 128 commands on each. Programs can be entered via HMI, USB memory, ethernet
cable, or radio (with optional equipment). The unit runs on 24-volt power and can run a full
shift prior to recharge.
A unique feature of the cart is the tilt-up drawbridge-style shelves for enhanced access,
where four of the five levels tilt out of the way. This is ideal for a sequential operation that
requires workers to empty one shelf before tilting it up out of the way to access the shelf
below, the company says.
The tilt-up shelves let the user minimize the space between the levels, as there is no need to
build in clearance for part removal on each level. By tightening up the space between the levels, the user can fit more levels in the cart, making better use of a plant’s floor space. (Creform

Power management program: EnerSys now offers the Zero Battery Change (ZBC) solution,
a customized power management program for lift truck fleets that provides a cost-effective
alternative to liquid propane, hydrogen fuel cells, and conventional lead-acid battery charging
systems. The ZBC solution allows lift trucks to operate all day without changing batteries and
without the need for a battery room.
With the ZBC solution, drivers simply pull up and plug in. Operators can charge their trucks
during regularly scheduled breaks, eliminating the need to change batteries, even in multishift
operations, while keeping every lift truck performing at its peak throughout the day.
EnerSys offers everything needed to eliminate battery changes, starting with a full evaluation
of the operation to installation, report programs, preventive maintenance, and repair services,
all under one limited warranty.
The ZBC solution includes ZBC Designer software, an interactive modeling software that
identifies the most efficient and cost-effective energy configuration for companies running
forklift fleets. The software completes operational and financial analysis within 30 minutes to
provide a savings framework. (EnerSys, www.enersys.com)
