Tether or not: Ventura, Calif.-based Gear Keeper
now offers a line of instrument tethers to help prevent warehouse workers from dropping or misplacing
bar-code scanners and similar devices. The tethers,
which are designed to hang from a belt or shoulder strap,
come in multiple forces to match the weight of any instrument and can be configured with a variety of clips or straps
depending on needs. The devices come in various lengths and
retraction forces. Belt clip or small hanging tether systems are
designed to hold up to 36 ounces, while heavy-duty and shoulder strap
models can easily hold a device weighing up to 68 ounces.
Gear Keeper instrument tethers come in both retractable and non-retractable
versions. Retractable tethers are most often used when users simply wish to grab
the instrument and then let it go when they are done. Non-retractable versions
provide minimal resistance to suspend and secure an instrument during use. (Gear

Better bids: Axxom Software has developed ORion-PI Tender Management, a
solution that enables logistics service providers to easily and accurately calculate
offers for warehouse outsourcing and other warehousing logistics services when
responding to bid invitations.
The estimation and calculation of offers often is expensive and time consuming,
plus it is subject to a high risk of forecasting errors. ORion-PI Tender Management
helps logistics service providers to precisely calculate the overall costs of new outsourcing orders, identify the exact staffing requirements, and calculate the
required staff costs. The software also supports the integration of new customers
into the logistics service provider’s warehouse. (Axxom Software AG,

Right on schedule: StormSource Software has
introduced Appointment-Plus, an online transportation management solution that automates the shipping and dock scheduling
process. Features include online driver and supplier self-scheduling, which allows drivers and
suppliers to view available delivery hours and
docks and finalize their own delivery time;
automated e-mail and text message reminders
sent to the drivers and suppliers prior to a
scheduled delivery; and robust reporting and
record-keeping capabilities.
As a Web-based shipping system,
Appointment-Plus doesn’t require costly hardware or program installations. Users simply
access their scheduler through any Internet
connection. (StormSource Software Inc.,

Modular conveying: SpanTech has unveiled
two conveyors, the MicroZone and the
OutRunner Spiral. The MicroZone conveyor is a
new 24-volt, low-profile, zero pressure accumulation conveyor system. Each standard
300mm by 300mm zone is individually driven
by a 24 volt “pancake” motor. Shaft-mounted
sprockets engage with the 5 mm pitch
MicroSpan plastic chain for positive tracking.
Unlike traditional side frame designs, each
MicroZone unit is made from a two-piece fabricated assembly. The drive, sprocket, belt, and
end roller assembly can be removed or replaced
in seconds. MicroZone units are individually
bolted together to form a modular conveyor
system for maximum design flexibility, making
the system suitable for kitting, assembly, order
fulfillment, and returns applications. The conveyor can be installed overhead or floor-mount-ed on casters. Optional automated transfer
devices are available.
The OutRunner Spiral is a drum-less powered
incline/decline spiral. Although the device is driven by a single gear motor, each 360-degree revolution is individually driven. This design allows
each tier to share the load, providing flexibility in
loads, speeds, and incline angles. Customers can
choose from a wide range of configurations.
