The eyes have it: Dematic has introduced the Alert Monitoring Service, a
support capability for users of automated
material handling systems. The Alert
Monitoring Service provides a constant
view of a user’s material handling system, monitoring trends with an eye
toward identifying issues before they
become critical. The Alert Monitoring
Service provides notifications about the
status of controls, computer hardware,
and equipment. Personnel at the user
site are notified by e-mail or SMS text
message of impending issues and recommended actions.
Utilizing the Alert Monitoring Service
allows a proactive and pre-emptive approach to the ongoing operational support of an automated material handling system. The
system uses smart filters and trend monitoring to determine if an
issue requires action as well as the appropriate response.
The Alert Monitoring software utility is the constant “eyes on the
system.” Dematic manages the definition and configuration of metrics, alerts, and notifications so the appropriate personnel automatically receive electronic alerts when a configured and tracked condition occurs. Alert notifications will enable both Dematic and the customer’s support personnel to resolve system issues, often before
operators are aware of the condition, thus improving the operating
performance of a facility. (Dematic Corp., www.dematic.us)
Image conscious: The Magellan 3300HSi high-performance
omni-directional scanner is the latest imaging-based scanner from
Datalogic Scanning. The Magellan 3300HSi is an in-counter single-plane scanner that offers the reading performance of laser scanners with added benefits, including the ability to read two-dimensional (2-D) bar-code symbologies.
The Magellan 3300HSi scanner uses new imaging technology
and software designed to considerably improve the scanner’s first
pass read rates on hard-to-read bar codes, such as truncated
codes and GS1 DataBar codes. Imaging technology significantly
enhances the reliability of the Magellan 3300HSi scanner by using
a solid-state design. It also adds new features normally not found
on single-plane scanners, such as the ability to capture images and
manage software upgrades and changes using a Micro-SD card.
This scanner also has the ability to read bar codes on mobile
phones. (Datalogic Scanning, www.scanning.datalogic.com)

Paper, please: As demand for eco-friendly products continues to grow, Ranpak is now offering its
paper packaging materials in two easy-to-use
products under the Upak brand name – Pakit for
void fill applications and Padit for added
cushioning.
Pakit, which is available in 200 or
1,000 linear-foot options, crumples
paper as it is dispensed through the top of
a box. The 350 linear-foot Pack & Wrap two-in-one void fill system
dispenses the same way, but also includes a smooth-paper dispenser for wrapping bottles or other objects. Pakit and Pack & Wrap
use Ranpak’s fan-folded paper and dispensing system, which minimizes the storage space required for packaging. Pack & Wrap also
has as an easy-tear feature for wrapping applications.
The Padit cushion pack is as effective as bubble but requires 50
percent less material, the company says. Like all Upak products,
Padit uses 100-percent recyclable and biodegradable paper.

Take charge: Advanced Charging Technologies (ACT) now provides industrial battery opportunity and fast charging systems. ACT
says its high-frequency MOSFET technology offers efficient and
clean AC/DC power. The lightweight technology also features a
small footprint and can be serviced in a modular fashion.
ACT’s Battery Feedback Device (BFD) uses wireless technology
to deliver instant data in graphed form. The data provides an
immediate picture of performance, such as water levels, amp
hours discharged, and equalizations. (Advanced Charging
