No longer driven to distraction: Distracted driving is the leading cause of on-the-job crashes and presents a serious liability for fleet operators. ZoomSafer, a developer of enterprise software to prevent distracted driving, unveils a new software service that helps corporate fleet operators and risk managers measure and manage employee use of mobile phones while driving, regardless of the type of phone used by employees.

FleetSafer Vision is a driver behavior modification solution that supports any type of phone, not just smart phones, and requires no on-device software. Offered as a cloud-based software service, FleetSafer Vision integrates vehicular telematics data, such as trip information, location, speed, etc., with mobile device usage data (phone calls, text messages, etc.) and other information ( e-mail logs, weather, traffic, etc.). Taking flight: Seagull Scientific has released version 9. 3 of its BarTender label and RFID software. The new version includes support for weighing scales, improved data entry forms, and a variety of powerful integration features.

Version 9. 3 expands upon Bar Tender’s capabilities for connecting to peripherals and integrating with other software, including the provision of bidirectional printing support for IBM WebSphere. Element-ary: Kardex Remstar introduces the Element vertical lift module (VLM), a unit designed to provide storage density and simplicity for distribution applications at an affordable cost. The Element VLM is a basic combination of vertically arranged storage trays that are delivered using an extractor platform to the operator at an ergonomic access opening. Compared with standard shelving, the Element VLM provides the same storage capacity in 80 percent less floor space, the manufacturer says.

With a simplistic design, the Element VLM can be reconfig-ured at any time to meet changing business requirements. Height can easily be added or subtracted after installation in 1.6-foot increments. Transport rollers allow the unit to be easily relocated within the facility.
