Heavy duty: Wheelift Systems offers its space-saving, ultra-maneu-verable self-propelled trailers (SPTs) for in-plant transport. The trailers, which are available in capacities ranging from 20 to 100 tons,
are designed for moving very large and awkward assemblies
through manufacturing and assembly processes. Suitable for use in
congested, confined areas and narrow intersecting aisles, the SPTs
feature computerized independent steering, on-center rotating
front axles, remote control operation, low-profile design, and on-board power generation.
The self-propelled trailers are powered by a 480v, three-phase AC
LP gas-engine driven generator. A shore power back-up option is
offered as a back-up power source and where virtually silent operation is desirable. (Wheelift, www.selfpropelledtrailers.com)
Get a load of this: Southworth Products Corp. has redesigned its
PalletPal Level Loader to make it even more ergonomic. A new,
smaller base makes loading and unloading pallets faster, safer, and
easier because it lets the user step closer to the unit’s platform for
the best access to palletized loads.
The PalletPal virtually eliminates the productivity-robbing, injury-producing bending, lifting, reaching, and stretching common to pal-let-loading applications, the manufacturer says. Heavy-duty springs
automatically lower or raise a pallet as weight is added or removed,
The PalletPal can accommodate loads weighing from 400 to
4,500 pounds, depending on which of five spring packages the customer chooses. If needs change, the unit can be adapted easily in
the field by changing its spring combination. (Southworth Products

Extra-sensory perception: Sick, a manufacturer of sensors, safety
systems, and machine vision and automatic identification solutions
for factory and logistics automation, has introduced the W9-3 photoelectric sensor. The third-generation sensor is available with a
wide variety of options, such as sensing range, mounting, and connectivity, making it suitable for a range of applications. Examples
include detecting clear, multicolored, and shiny objects in the material handling and food and beverage industries.
The W9-3 uses a proprietary type of plastic and molding process
that makes the sensor as tough as nails, the manufacturer says. The
material, called Vistal, is nine times stronger than standard ABS. The
sensor’s connector is over-molded onto the device, creating a sensor
that is nearly unbreakable.
In addition, the sensor uses Sick’s third-generation custom ASIC
(application-specific integrated circuit), which incorporates OES3
technology to enable the W9-3 to ignore stray background reflections, detect multicolored/shiny objects, and provide high immunity
to ambient light. (Sick, www.sickusa.com)
