roadtrip
Former Democratic Congressman James Oberstar may have lost his
House seat in the mid-term elections, but that doesn’t make him any less
of an expert on the declining state of our nation’s infrastructure and our
options for fixing it. In fact, now that he’s no longer in public office, his
keynote speech at NASSTRAC’s 2011 Logistics Conference & Expo may
prove to be especially candid.
Oberstar’s voice won’t be the only one heard at the conference, which
takes place April 17–20 in Orlando, Fla. Top motor carrier executives will
also be on hand to give shippers need-to-know information about
capacity and market shifts. Other speakers will address regulatory and
legislative developments, such as the CSA (Compliance, Safety, and
Accountability) 2010 driver safety initiative and clean truck programs.
The conference will also feature an expo of transportation and supply
chain services. For more information, visit www.NASSTRAC.org.
Gone but not forgotten
Two years ago, Randy Lewis, senior vice president of distribution and logistics for
Walgreens, left attendees at the Warehousing Education and Research Council
(WERC) conference moved and inspired after his speech about Walgreens’
efforts to hire people with disabilities. This year, Lewis will provide an update on
the initiative in an address titled “What Can We Do to Make It Better?”
Lewis’s presentation will be just one of many opportunities for attendees at
the 2011 WERC Conference to learn about ways to improve their warehous-
ing operations. During the event, which will be held May 15–18 in Orlando,
Fla., leading academics, consultants, and executives from companies like
Walmart, Owens & Minor, and Honeywell will speak on topics like best prac-
tices in automation, the human side of a technology rollout, and strategies for
running a global network.
