PPG Expands Springdale,
PA Facility
PPG Industries recently marked the
startup of a new electronic materials group (EMG) manufacturing cell at
its Springdale, Pennsylvania, industrial
coatings plant. This addition positions
the company in the fast-growing global
electronics market for conductive inks
and coatings. The commissioning of the
new cell marks the transfer of business
and technology from industrial coatings
producer Spraylat Corp., which PPG acquired late last year.
Among the range of conductive inks
and coatings the EMG cell will produce
are two new technologies – graphene and
nanosilver conductive inks – for specialized electronics applications in the medical, automotive and telecommunications
fields. The market for such technologies
is expanding rapidly and is expected to
continue growing for the next decade,
according to Glenn Thornley, PPG operations director, industrial coatings.
PPG Pittsburgh Paints
Unveils Mobile Version of
The Voice of Color Paint
Your Own Room Visualizer
PPG Pittsburgh Paints recently released
the mobile version of its The Voice of
Color Paint Your Own Room Visualizer
July 2013
with PPG EasyEdge Technology, providing painters, architects, facility managers
and designers with an all-in-one integrated digital tool that now works directly
from their tablet device’s mobile browser.
Offering the first room visualizer accessible via tablet device, The Voice of Color
Paint Your Own Room Visualizer allows
professionals to use their tablet’s browser
and camera in concert to take a photo
and virtually paint a room through a single seamless process.
With the use of tablet devices on the
continual rise, the mobile The Voice of
Color Paint Your Own Room Visualizer
allows professionals to envision any of
the 1,900 colors in the PPG Pittsburgh
Paints line on a client’s walls. With just a
few clicks, users can mix and match walls,
ceilings, trim and more to find the perfect
colors for their next project. Moving the
project from conceptualization to reality,
the Paint Your Own Room Visualizer also
allows professionals to find the nearest
PPG Pittsburgh Paints store, where they
can bring their project on their mobile
device while purchasing their desired
paint colors.
“Over the past
three years, we have
seen a significant
rise in traffic to The
Voice of Color website coming from
mobile devices,
which coupled with
the increased reliance on tablets and
smartphones helped
spur the development of the patent pending mobile
version of the Paint
Your Own Room
Visualizer,” said
Dee Schlotter, brand
manager, The Voice
of Color program of
the PPG Pittsburgh
Paints brand. “The
tool gives professionals a visual
helper, accessible
www.coatingsworld.com
anywhere they go.”
The Paint Your Own Room
Visualizer utilizes the revolution-
ary PPG EasyEdge Technology,
offering industry-exclusive functionality
to provide virtual painters with unprec-
edented control and detail for realistic
quality. It considers elements in a room
photo such as lighting, angles, furni-
ture and trim to provide virtual painters
with the simulated precision of painting
a real room. By electronically mapping
and outlining a room, PPG’s EasyEdge
Technology removes the time consuming
elements for professionals, allowing them
to simply touch the desired color and
drag it to the wall they want to paint.
Data and painted room images are
now saved on the Cloud, giving professionals access to all of their stored information from any point of contact
– their desktop, mobile visualizer and
PPG mobile app. Painted rooms can also
be shared to social media pages directly
from the Visualizer as well.
