Asian Paints is India’s largest paint company and ranked among the top ten decorative coatings companies in the world with sales of $1.99 bn in 2012. The Middle East
comprised 50.1 percent of paints sales, Asia 27.2 percent, Caribbean 14. 9 percent and South Pacfic 7. 8 percent. Asian Paints
operates 24 manufacturing facilities across the globe. The largest share is in South Asia, where the firm runs 13 plants spread
throughout India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh and Singapore.
There are five plants in the Middle East in Egypt, Oman, Bahrain and Dubai. In the South Pacific islands of Fiji, Vanuatu and
Samoa, Asian Paints runs three plants. Lastly, in the Caribbean,
Jamaica, Barbados, and Trinidad and Tobago each are home to
a facility. Subsidiaries include Berger International, SCIB Paints
– Egypt, Asian Paints, Apco Coatings and Taubmans. Asian

Paints markets the following architectural brands in India:
Apex, Ace and Apex Ultima for exterior walls; Royale, Tractor, Premium Emulsion, Apcolite and Utsav for interior walls;
Apcolite and Utsav for metal surfaces; and PU, Melamyne, Apcolite and Utsav for wood. Asian Paints recently expanded its
production capacity at Rohtak (Haryana, India) from 150,000
KL per annum to 200,000 KL per annum. This plant can be
further scaled to produce 400,000 KL per annum. The Rohtak
Plant was set up in April 2010. The other paint manufacturing
facilities of Asian Paints in India are located at Mumbai (
Ma-harastra), Ankleshwar (Gujarat), Kasna (Uttar Pradesh), Pa-tancheru (Andhra Pradesh) and Sriperumbudur (Tamil Nadu).
The company is also setting up a plant at Kesurdi (Khandala)
in Maharashtra.

Jotun recorded sales of $1.953 billion for 2012. The company operates in four business segments. Marine Coatings comprised 32 percent of sales, Decorative Paints 35 percent, Protective
Coatings 23 percent and Powder Coatings 10 percent. The company
added approximately 700 new employees worldwide to support future growth.
Decorative Paints achieved record growth in the Middle East
and South East Asia. Jotun acquired land for a new factory in
Oman and is expanding warehouse and logistic capacity in Saudi
Arabia and Egypt. The company reported the successful Scan-
dinavian launch of LADY Wonderwall. For Marine Coatings,
growth slowed due to declines in the newbuilding market. Jotun
strengthened dry-dock and sea-stock concepts to generate growth
in maintenance markets and secured a number of contracts for
Hull Performance Solutions (HPS) concept. Jotun launched an
expanded range of premium sylil acrelate anti-foulings. Protec-
tive Coatings recorded strong results in Korea, Europe, Singapore
and the Middle East and expanded into new market segments
(renewables, mining). The company launched Barrier Plus (corro-
sion protection of steel substrates) and Penguard Pro, a primer for
submerged surfaces. The company broke ground on a new factory
in Russia and continues plans to build a factory in Brazil. Powder
Coatings opened a new state-of-the-art powder factory and R&D
center in China and secured a contract for Queensland-Curtis
LNG project in Australia using new three layer FBE technology
(J-Trac). Jotun also launched its ‘Reveal’ range of powder coatings.
