Cytec launches new dispersion for field
applied matte floor coatings
Cytec Industries Inc. has introduced a new
high performance acrylated polyurethane
dispersion for UV curable field applied
matte coatings on wood, vinyl and vinyl
composition tile (VCT). Ucecoat 7891 dispersion allows for the development of low
gloss formulations without the use of silicas or other particles and dead matte formulations with very low amounts of silica.
This results in formulations with better
shelf life, since the settling of particles is no
longer a concern said the company. Cytec
also said Ucecoat 7891-based floor coatings have a uniform, transparent matte appearance and floor coatings based on
Ucecoat 7891 exhibit a good balance of
flexibility and hardness, thus providing
good adhesion and coin resistance. Solvent
and chemical resistance are also provided.
Newly improved gearbox
design of Ross Planetary Mixers
Ross Planetary Mixers are now offered
with newly improved sealed and purged
gearbox assemblies for sensitive applications requiring the tightest protection
against contamination. Ross 40-gallon
Double Planetary Mixers are designed for
high-precision formulations. Two rectangular planetary blades rotate on their own
axes, while they orbit the mix vessel on a
common axis. This mixing action is ideal
for moving viscous fluids or wet granulations. The stainless steel heavy-duty sealed
gearbox housing includes a sloped cover to
prevent contamination and pooling of condensed liquids. Solvent vapors and airborne
particles are likewise prevented from entering the purged gearbox. These mixers also
feature a gable-roofed bonnet to avoid dust
or water collection. All ports and connections are tri-clamp design. Atomizing spray
nozzles are installed on dedicated ports for
controlled and spill-free addition of liquid
raw materials into the batch. Other optional features recommended for sensitive
mixing applications include flush discharge
plugs or valves, covers for use with the
portable mix vessels during transport, and
controls integrating the mixer with auxiliary equipment such as vacuum pumps,
heating/cooling units, load cells, etc. Ross’s
own Systems & Controls division supplies
pre-programmed and pre-wired controls
for fast installation and start-up.
Phoseon Technology launches
FirePower family of products
Phoseon Technology has introduced the
FirePower family of UV LED curing products. The FirePower products are high
performance water-cooled LED curing
lamps offering either 12W/cm2 or
16W/cm2 peak irradiance. The company
said these products offer advanced capability for new applications in flexographic
and wide-format digital printing while
also allowing system builders to increase
their speed in other applications. The FirePower product family is available in three
curing length options: 150x20mm;
225x20mm; and 300x20mm.
BASF offers Chroma Finish,
a low VOC and APEO-free
high performance
colorant technology
The Wall Systems business of BASF Corporation, a manufacturer of exterior insulation and finish systems (EIFS), stucco and
air/water-resistive barriers, has introduced
a new colorant for projects that require intense colors and high color retention.
BASF's Chroma Finish is a proprietary
technology that can be used to produce the
strong, intense colors often used by corporations to create brand identity. With
Chroma Finish, colors like deep blues and
bright reds can now be produced with war-rantied fade resistance. Chroma Finish utilizes low volatile organic compound
(VOC) and alkylphenol ethoxylates
(APEO)-free high performance colorant
technology. The 100 percent acrylic chemistry ensures long term film flexibility and
crack resistance. Although localized conditions can greatly affect color permanence,
BASF Wall Systems offers a six-year warranty against excessive fade.
BYK introduces CarboBYK
9810 CNT dispersion;
BYK 1710 defoamer
BYK has launched its first CNT dispersion. Carbon nanotubes provide unique
features such as high electrical and thermal conductivity, as well as good mechanical properties. CarboBYK 9810 is an
easy-to-pour, homogenous liquid that facilitates correct dosing, prevents dusting,
and allows for post-addition. Incorporating carbon nanotubes into coatings, printing inks, plastics or adhesives enhances
electrical and thermal conductivity, antistatic behaviour, mechanical properties,
and shielding from electromagnetic waves.
The additive is only recommended for waterborne systems. CarboBYK 9810 is recommended for use in architectural and
industrial coatings, and is also suitable for
use in adhesives, automotive coatings,
plastics industry, printing inks and wood
coatings. BYK has also introduced defoamer BYK 1710 for emulsion paints, PU
and EP coatings. BYK 1710 is a zero emission polymer defoamer free of silicones
and mineral oils. The additive is suitable
in sensitive systems such as alkyd emulsions, PUDs as well as 2-pack epoxy and
PUR systems. BYK 1710 is VOC-free and
fulfills all common directives, and it is applicable in many areas such as architec-
