Valspar increases industrial coatings prices
Valspar Corporation will implement a
price increase for all liquid, powder and
E-coat products within the general industrial portfolio, effective April 1, 2012. This
action comes in the wake of significant
raw material cost increases for Ti02, polyester and epoxy resins said the company.
“We are currently experiencing significant
cost escalation in a majority of our raw
materials,” said Brian Falline, vice president of Valspar’s general industrial division. “The pressures we are facing make
this action unavoidable. We understand
and appreciate the impact this increase
will have to our customers, and will work
tirelessly to help our customers continue
to achieve their business goals during this
difficult time.”
Arkema Coating Resins raises
prices for latex, solventborne
and powder products in North
America
Arkema Coating Resins has increased
pricing on all latex products sold in North
America. Encor acrylic, styrene-acrylic,
styrene-butadiene and Neocar Acrylic latexes will increase by $0.05 to $0.07 per
wet pound. Encor vinyl-acrylic, vinyl acetate-ethylene and Neocar Latexes will increase by $0.02 to $0.03 per wet pound.
Arkema Coating Resins also increased
pricing on all solventborne and powder
coating resins sold in North America.
Chempol acrylics, alkyds, polyesters and
oils will increase by $0.06 to $0.12 per
pound. Reafree polyester powder resins
will increase by $0.06 to $0.08 per pound.
The company said this action is necessary
due to escalation in the cost of raw materials and transportation for solventborne
and powder products.
Lonza Microbial Control
increases price for IPBC-based
biocide formulations
Lonza Microbial Control has announced
that, due to dramatic price increases of the
key raw material iodine, they have imple-
mented a global 10 to 40 percent price increase, depending on the formulation, for
Omacide TM biocide products, based on
3-Iodo-2- propynyl-n-butylcarbamate
(IPBC). These products are typically used
in metalworking fluids and coatings.
DSM introduces price increases
for its range of Liquid coating
resins in Europe, Middle-East
and Africa
DSM Coating Resins introduced a price increase of between 0.10-0.25 €/kg, depending on the product, affecting the entire
liquid coatings resins, adhesives and graphic
arts product portfolio. The price increase
will be effective for shipments on or after
April 1, 2012, or as contracts allow. The
price increase will affect product ranges like
NeoCryl waterborne acrylics and acrylic
beads, NeoPac waterborne urethane-acrylics, NeoRez waterborne urethanes,
Uraflex / Solucote solventborne urethanes
and Uradil waterborne polyesters and
alkyds. This price increase is driven by multiple factors in the market, but mainly by
continued increasing costs of our raw materials said the company.
Ashland raises price for
intermediates and specialty
solvents in Europe
Ashland Specialty Ingredients, a commercial unit of Ashland Inc., increased the
price of its portfolio of intermediates and
specialty solvents sold in Europe effective
April 1, or as contracts allow. Prices for
1, 4 Butanediol (BDO) and its derivatives
Tetrahydrofuran (THF) and N-Methyl-2-
Pyrrolidone (NMP) will increase by 14 eu-rocents per kg.
BASF increases prices for resins
and additives in North America
Effective March 16, or as contracts allow,
BASF increased list and off-list prices for
resins and performance additives by five to
15 percent in North America. The price increase pertains to only the North American
graphic arts, coatings and related markets,
and is in addition to previous price increase
announcements. This includes, but not limited to, the following product lines: Capcure
polymercaptans; Empol dimer acids and co-products; Genamid amidoamine epoxy curing agents; Joncryl acrylic emulsions,
polyols, solid resins and solutions; Laromer
oligomers and reactive diluents; Luhydran
self-crosslinking acrylic emulsions; Luwipal
and Plastopal crosslinkers; Sovermol bio-based polyols; Versamid polyamide resins
and epoxy curing agents; and Versamine
modified-amine epoxy curing agents. The
company said the price increases are necessitated by higher costs for key raw materials, energy and transportation.
BASF increases prices for resins
and dispersions in Europe,
Middle East and Africa
As of March 1, 2012,BASF increased
prices in Europe, Middle East and Africa
for resins and dispersions for the coatings,
printing and packaging industries by three
to 12 percent or as existing contracts
allow. The price increase affects, but is not
limited to, the following product ranges:
Joncryl, Luhydran and Acronal. The company said the price adjustments are necessary mainly due to further significantly
increased costs of key raw materials.
Momentive raises its powder
polyester resins pricing
Due to increases in feedstock, energy and
transport costs, Momentive Specialty
Chemicals Inc., has increased prices for
its Albester, Albester SilkyMatt, Albemast, Albecor and Albecor-Bio powder
polyester resins in Europe, the Middle
East and Africa (EMEA). Effective March
1st, 2012 or as contracts allow, prices increased from 0.15 to 0.18 €/Kg. Albester,
Albester SilkyMatt, Albemast, Albecor
and Albecor-Bio powder polyester resins
are used in a wide range of applications
in the building, agriculture and automotive industries. CW
