Elementis launches
Rheolate 150 rheological
additive for waterborne
decorative coatings
Elementis has introduced Rheolate 150
rheological additive, a cost effective and
versatile alkali swellable thickener in an
easy to use emulsion form designed to provide excellent low shear viscosity build. It is
very cost effective in medium to high PVC
formulations said the company. Rheolate
150 can be used alone or in combination
with other rheological modifiers, e.g. HEC
or PU thickeners to achieve the desired rheological performance. It imparts good sag
and spatter resistance along with improved
leveling and syneresis control and good
color acceptance. Applications include all
latex paints: gloss, semi-gloss and matt;
waterborne adhesives; waterborne inks;
and waterborne sealants. The Rheolate 150
additive provides high viscosity at low
shear rates; excellent sag and anti-settling
resistance; reduces syneresis; reduces spattering during roller application; demonstrates excellent color acceptance; shows
similar dilution behavior to HEC in most
paint formulations; is APEO-free and solvent-free; and has low viscosity and is easy
to incorporate.
ing and coatings applications launched under
the Lucida Colors
brand. The new product family, known as
Lucida Colors EC, is
designed for energy-curable (EC) systems
and offers high-quality
pigments with improved handling characteristics and low
odor said the company.
For the printing industry, the Lucida Colors
EC line includes a full
12-color palette for
flexographic printing
and a CMYK set for
sheet-fed applications. It also includes a
12-color palette of dispersions and four

QC as a convenient
and reliable solution
for at-line quality control. Contact angle is
an established technique for the characterization of solid
surfaces and liquids. It
consists in depositing a
drop of liquid onto a
solid surface and analyzing the drop shape to investigate wetting behaviors, providing information on
various material properties such as homogeneity, wettability, adhesion, surface-free energy and cleanliness. Lab bench
contact angle meters have traditionally
been used in research, development and
quality control laboratories, for instance
for the development of paints and coatings. Meeting the demand from industry
for a more mobile yet precise, fast and
convenient solution for at-line quality
control measurements, Attension developed Theta QC.

Theta QC for quality
control measurement
Attension has introduced Theta QC, a
portable contact angle meter for quality
control measurements of paints, coatings
and coating processes that enables quick
and scientific control of coating and substrate homogeneity, wettability, adhesion,
surface-free energy and cleanliness. It can
also be used to characterize liquid phase
coating interaction with substrates (e.g.
paints). The company said Theta QC is
the first contact angle meter to be completely wireless, standalone and handheld. This enables optimal freedom in
