Paliocrom Brilliant Orange from BASF
Paliocrom Brilliant Orange L 2850 is the
first of a new generation of effect pigments from BASF. Exceptional brilliance
and ultra-high chroma enable the creation of novel designs in the orange to
red shade area. This pigment is based on
iron-oxide-coated aluminum platelets of
the thin silver dollar type, which have
very fine particle size distribution. The
resulting brilliance together with ultra-high chroma and lightness as well as
excellent hiding power, offers scope for
innovative styling options. With its pronounced flop characteristics (light/dark
contrast) and strong sparkle, the product
allows subtle variations in coatings
design. Paliocrom Brilliant Orange L
2850 is suitable for both solvent- and
water-based systems. Its main applications are high-performance automotive
coatings and industrial coatings for computers, telecommunications equipment
and electrical appliances.
WACKER LAUNCHES SILICONE
PRODUCTS FOR SUSTAINABLE
COATING APPLICATIONS
At Interlakokraska 2010, held in
Moscow, Russia from March 9-12, the
Wacker Group presented new solvent-
free silicone resins and silicone resin
emulsions for heat-resistant or water-
based coatings. One of the products
Wacker introduced was Silres IC 232, a
new alkoxy silicone resin intermediate,
which imparts resistance to heat and
weathering to various organic binders. It
is used for the production of siliconized
polyester, alkyd, epoxy and acrylic resins.
One possible application for Silres IC
232 is for exterior coil coatings. Another
product introduction was Silres MP 50 E,
a new silicone resin emulsion that con-
forms to international standards such as
regulations issued by the US Federal
Drug Administration (FDA) and the
German Federal Agency for Risk
Assessment. It is now possible to create a
water-based silicone resin coating that,
when fully hardened, provides a surface
coating suitable for kitchen appliances,
cooking utensils and grills.
ASHLAND LAUNCHES NEW
ENVIREZ POLYESTER RESIN
Ashland Performance Materials now
offers Envirez resin, the industry’s first
commercially available unsaturated
polyester resin containing renewable
materials. The new formulation, Envirez
7241 T- 15 resin, is a pre-promoted
thixotropic corrosion-resistant isoph-thalic polyester. The technology can be
used to fabricate durable, corrosion-resistant equipment. Envirez 7241 T- 15
can be applied in hand lay-up and spray-up applications to create products such
as fume hoods, ducts, tanks and pipes in
applications where corrosion resistance
is required.
BLACKMER XLW PUMPS FOR PAINT
AND ADHESIVE PROCESSING
Blackmer XLW Series of sliding vane
pumps have been designed to handle
liquids with suspended particles up to
250 microns and 25% concentration,
such as paint, adhesives and inks. XLW
Series pumps are designed with hard-
ened ductile iron materials, giving the
pump the unique capability of easily
handing abrasive liquids. Available
with O-rings, mechanical seals, relief
valves, springs, vanes and rotors, the
XLW pumps may be fitted to handle a
wide variety of materials. Base mount-
ed unit assemblies with a helical gear
reduction drive are available for all
XLW models. XLW pumps are available
in 2- and 3-inch port sizes and are avail-
able in flanged ports with NPT, weld,
ANSI and DIN options. The XLW Series
pumps offer flow rates between 6 gpm
and 85 gpm ( 23 to 320 lpm) with differ-
ential pressures to 150 psi ( 10. 34 bar).
The pumps provide excellent self-prim-
ing and dry run capabilities, and
include an adjustable relief valve that
protects the pump against excessive
pressures. The XLW Series positive dis-
placement rotary pumps offer the best
combined characteristics of sustained
high-level performance, energy efficien-
cy, trouble-free operation and low main-
tenance cost, according to the company.
ROSS LAUNCHES NEW
MODEL POWERMIX DESIGN
Ross now offers a new design of the
PowerMix (planetary disperser) for the
mixing of viscous mixtures requiring a
combination of slow and high-speed agitation. This new design combines two
slow speed planetary stirrers with two
conventional high- speed dispersers. All
agitators revolve on their own axis while
at the same time on a common axis.
Each of the agitators is independently
driven to allow for individual control of
the speed. The high-speed blades provide an intensive shearing action, while
the planetary stirrers continually move
material into the high-speed blades.
The combined action of the two planetary blades also removes material from
the tank wall to insure superior heat
transfer during the mixing process. The
PowerMix is available from 1/2 gallon to
750 gallons working capacity.
