NOF’s new range of Geokote coatings provide optimal corrosion protection.
MGI Coutier, a manufacturer of door
check straps for the automotive industry,
parts that are highly stressed, wanted to
develop a very high performing anticorrosion solution, and in the end relied on
two solutions: the application of Geomet
321 Grade A coating and a clear or black
Geokote topcoat.
“We wanted a new coating combining
both strong corrosion and mechanical re-
sistance,” said Sébastien Leclerc, project
manager at MGI Coutier. “The Geomet 321
zinc flake coating with a Geokote topcoat
provides us with the compromise sought re-
garding the preservation of the corrosion
performance after the numerous mechanical
stresses exerted on parts. From the tests per-
formed, we have selected two options: a
black topcoat and a clear topcoat.”
NOF said the Geokote topcoat is also
particularly well adapted for manufactur-
ers and users of fasteners (screws, nuts,
tightening clips, etc.) by providing them
optimal strength and mountability prop-
erties. It enables among other properties
the ability to avoid the stick-slip effect
when tightening.
The range of Geokote topcoats is available worldwide and can be used with dip
or spray processes on the lines of NOF’s
global applicators network.
New Spies Hecker Permasolid
2.1 Surfacer 5157
Spies Hecker has introduced Permasolid
2.1 Surfacer 5157 is a 2K acrylic urethane
with low VOC levels and is designed for
use with both waterborne and solvent-borne base coats.
Permasolid 2.1 Surfacer 5157 is ideal
for refinishers because of ease of application and increased productivity the company said. Spraying requires two to four
coats and flash-off time is five to 10 minutes between coats. Its leveling properties
means less sanding is required.
“Permasolid 2.1 Surfacer 5157 gives
shops a low VOC, productive surfacer
that will help increase productivity and
improve final results,” said Debbie Curry,
product manager, North America. “This
new surfacer is not only fast and easy to
spray, it also provides good absorption of
overspray and exceptional feather edge
capabilities, enabling technicians to
achieve optimal final results.”
Permasolid 2.1 Surfacer 5157 is avail-
able in white and dark gray.
Based in Cologne, Germany, Spies
Hecker is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of refinishing paints.

Dunn-Edwards improves
Suprema interior flat and
velvet paint
Dunn-Edwards has improved its Suprema
product line. The Flat and Velvet finish levels ( 10 and 20) now provide better hide,
burnish resistance and touch up that will go
a long way to ensure that painting professionals can provide the best possible interior paint for their client’s homes the
company said. The high quality resins in its
formulation provide better scrub resistance
by creating a harder film. Suprema has excellent flow and leveling because it uses a
special thickening agent that interacts better
with the resin particles to allow the paint
film to flow better. This ensures a smooth,
even finish. Suprema is eco-friendly, ethylene glycol (EG)-free and produced in the
nation’s only LEED Gold-Certified paint
manufacturing plant. Suprema is ultra-low
VOC at 50 grams per liter, and has very low
odor both during and after application. The
improved Suprema Flat and Velvet are now
available in Dunn-Edwards’ stores.
PPG launches new CRE Series
primers
PPG Commercial Coatings has introduced
an enhanced version of its CRE Series cor-rosion-resistant epoxy primers. The new
primers replace all versions of the CRE
products currently sold in North America.
The CRE-X21 Series primers provide a
range of performance features that include
improved chemical resistance, enhanced
corrosion protection, a broad 96-hour recoat window, and excellent adhesion to
galvanized, galvaneal and stainless steel as
well as to current compatible substrates.
Also, with a 2.1 lbs/gal blended VOC, the
new series meets current regulations in the
U.S. and Canada in PPG target markets.
“This series of greatly improved
primers is the result of new raw material
technology we are utilizing at PPG,” said
Steve Podlas, marketing manager for PPG
Commercial Coatings. “We have com-
pletely redesigned both sides of the
primer/hardener package in making the
improvements.”
According to Podlas, the CRE-X21 Se-
ries primers offer higher film build capabil-
ities and excellent sag resistance. The fill
properties make the primers an ideal choice
for application over sandblasted profiles.
The primers also provide a smoother ap-
pearance allowing for a better finish ap-
pearance after the topcoat is applied.
The CRE-X21 Series primers are offered
in three standard colors—black, gray and
white—in addition to a tintable version.
They are intended for use on trailers, cranes,
service bodies, cryogenic equipment, and a
variety of other manufactured items. The
primers can be applied using conventional
equipment, pressure pots, airless, air-assisted
airless, or electrostatic spray equipment.
