in 2011, up from $9.863bn the year before.
Performance Coatings, which includes aerospace, architectural coatings Americas and Asia Pacific, automotive refinish, and

During the year PPG made several acquisitions that expand its
global footprint. First PPG purchased European coatings company
Dyrup A/S based in Copenhagen, Denmark, from its owner, Mon-berg & Thorsen, a public holding company, for $44 million. Dyrup,
a producer of architectural coatings and woodcare products, operates six manufacturing facilities throughout Europe, and its products are sold primarily in Denmark, France, Germany, Portugal,
Poland and Spain through professional and do-it-yourself channels.
PPG also purchased the coatings businesses of Colpisa
Colombiana de Pinturas and its affiliate, Colpisa Equador, for
$38 million. Colpisa, based in Itagüi, near Medellin, was founded
in 1973 and manufactures and distributes coatings for automotive OEM and refinish, industrial and architectural coatings customers in Colombia and Ecuador.
PPG then acquired the business of Ducol Coatings South
Africa (PTY) Ltd., which has served as an importer and distributor of PPG’s automotive refinish products in South Africa since
2003. Ducol Coatings, based in Krugersdorp, northwest of Johannesburg, was formed in 1990 and has been active throughout
South Africa and in Namibia.
During the year PPG also created PPG Management (
Shanghai) Co., Ltd. The new company, located in Shanghai, will act as
business headquarters for PPG in China.
China continues to experience rapid growth, and PPG’s new
country headquarters in Shanghai will help facilitate its business
growth through the consolidation of China business and func-
tional leaders together in the new location.
San Jose Int’l Airport first showcase for Duranar
powder coatings
The new Terminal B concourse at the Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport in California is the first monumental architectural project constructed with Duranar powder coatings by PPG Industries
industrial coatings business. Duranar powder coatings are formulated by
PPG to provide the same long-term durability as Duranar liquid
coatings, but in an environmentally advanced, ultra-low-VOC
powder. They are based on the
same polyvinylidene fluoride
(PVDF) technology as liquid Duranar coatings. Duranar Regal
White powder coatings were
applied to a series of curved,
perforated metal panels that arc
over the main Terminal B structure. The coating was specified
by Fentress Architects, Denver,
CO. Overly Manufacturing,
Greensburg, PA, was the metal
panel manufacturer and Spectrum Metal Finishing, Youngstown, OH,
was the PPG Certified Applicator. Terminal B covers more than 160,000
square feet and is designed to accommodate up to 8. 5 million passengers a year. The project earned LEED Silver certification from the U.S.
Green Building Council (USGBC) in September 2010.
Environmentally coatings featured
on new Terminal B concourse.
